Drowning (Poem)

fullsizerender-29

Slowly killing me,

You killed me inside,

You projected your thoughts,

Your jealousy was your guide.

You thought you controlled me,

You thought you held me down,

But I have risen from that,

I no longer volunteer to drown.

I do not listen to you,

Your jabs do not cause me pain,

I see my true potential,

Your insecurities are your bane.

You tried to cut me down,

You tried to make me thin,

You tried to make me bleed,

You got under my skin.

I could be angry and violent,

I could be a dangerous girl,

But I hold myself higher,

My writing helps me unfurl.

I do not give you the power,

To make me hate myself so,

I will be who I am forever,

It’s your turn to drown in your woe.
